Travel Advice for rainy days in Vienna – first district

Hello everybody,

this year’s summer in Austria is absolutely not worthy being called as such. Rain and lower temperatures than we as locals are used to destroy many vacations. But there are so many nice things you can do in Vienna although it is raining. Here are my secret spots for glutenfree rainy days.

In the first place I would advise you to buy the Vienna Card, because then you get vouchers and free entrance. You can buy it online http://www.wien.info/de/reiseinfos/wien-karte/geniessen (if you are planning in advance) or at your hotel. It offers cheaper entrances to classic concerts, museii (I guess this is the correct plural for museum), clubs and clubbings, gives you a discount at restaurants and cafés and you can buy your public transport tickets cheaper.

Start of a rainy day in the first district („Erster Bezirk“)

The Butterfly Pavillion: OPEN April – October 10.00-18.15; March – November 10.00-15.45, adults 5,50€ (without Vienna Card)
This sight is a secret enchanted spot of Vienna. With a constant temperature of approx. 26 degrees celsius an 80% humidity it is a little piece of jungle in the center of Vienna. Wonderful tender butterflies of all colors and shapes are fliing right next to you. I have spent about about one hour in this little enchanted world. (Plus the toilets are quite clean)
It is situated right behind the famous „Hofburg“ (Burggarten 1010 Wien) and is reached easily by Tram D, 1, 2, or Bus 57A both vehicles stop at the station called „Burgring“.

The Treasury OPEN Wed-Mo 9.00-17.30, adults 12€
The great treasures of the rich K&K monarchy. Silver, gold and diamonds put toghether by the masters of their business. Wonderful ancient pieces of art and symbols of status and power.

Café Aidahttp://aida.at/
Serving 3 different glutenfree tarts and cakes. Sit down, relax and enjoy a delicious sweet treat. Relieve the sightseeing stress and see Vienna with the calm and charming manner of a real „Wiener“ I can recommend the flourless Poppy-Nut Cake. It is super delicious. This café has many shops in Vienna – in the first district:
Bognergasse 3; Opernring 7; Rotenturmstraße 24(next to Schwedenplatz, where U3 and U4 cross); Singerstraße 1 (next to the St.Stefan’s Cathedral); Wollzeile 28

Café Kurkonditorei Oberlaa
